Our Community
Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and this page is dedicated to showcasing how we support and engage with our local community.
Community engagement
The Hub Hornby is actively involved in the local community through various initiatives. We proudly collaborate with educational trusts, local charities, sports teams, and recognition programs to enhance the lives of the residents in our community. Our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment ensures that everyone feels welcome and valued.
Supporting Local charities and sports teams

We are proudly dedicated to supporting our local charities and sports teams throughout the year. Our initiatives include gift wrapping donations supporting Hato Hone St John, providing spaces in our centre for charities and local sports teams to hold raffles and fundraisers, and supporting local businesses and the arts through incubator sites.
Proud to Be
Proud to be is a recognition program that celebrates individuals who make a significant impact in the Hornby community. People can nominate themselves or others for something they are proud to be, such as a mother, coach, teacher, nurse, cancer survivor, or any other valuable role.
Safe Space Alliance

The Hub Hornby is actively involved with the Safe Space Alliance, an LGBTQI+ led nonprofit organisation that aims to help people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for LGBTQI+ communities worldwide. These safe spaces are environments where LGBTQI+ individuals can freely express themselves without fear of violence, bullying, or hate speech.
By being part of the Safe Space Alliance, The Hub Hornby is recognised as a safe space where all individuals, regardless of background, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, are accepted and supported. Additionally, The Hub Hornby has done significant work around transgender bathroom policies, ensuring inclusivity and safety for all visitors.
Uru Manuka Education Trust

The Hub Hornby proudly supports the Uru Manuka Education Trust which is dedicated to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students in the ÅŒtautahi, Christchurch area. The Trust supports local schools by delivering the Manaiakalani programme, which focuses on accelerating learning through the Learn, Create, Share model. This programme aims to improve reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, typically raising them from below national averages to well above.
The Trust helps schools by facilitating access to Chromebooks and funding full time Educational Programme Leaders to deliver the Manaiakalani programme. This initiative provides equitable access to portable technology and enhances the learning experience for students.
Toitū enviromark gold certified

The Hub Hornby is proud to be Toitū Enviromark Gold Certified, showcasing its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. This prestigious certification, awarded by Toitū Envirocare, recognises organisations that set and achieve ambitious environmental goals, aligning with global best practices.
